European Responses to US Health Care Reform

March 24, 2010

Anyone who has watched or read reports from any of the major US news networks knows it can be a struggle to find international viewpoints on American issues. For the health care debate, this comes in spite of fears by some, mostly on the Right, that the bill passed Sunday night will send the US spiraling towards European-style socialism. Nonetheless, Europeans are speaking up and offering their perspectives on the US Health Care Reform:

“US Health Care — Good for America, a Burden for the World?”-Gregor Peter Schmitz, Der Spiegel

“Healthcare vote is strategic victory in culture wars”-Editorial, NRC Handelsblad (NL)

“Barack Obama’s health trophy”-Editorial, Telegraph (UK)

“US healthcare sham”-Sergei Halimi, La Monde diplomatique (FR)

“United States: Health of a nation”-Editorial, Guardian (UK)

“Health care success may provide boost for Obama on the world stage”-Michael Knigge, Deutsche Welle

“Obama’s reign in rude health”-Editorial, Independent (IE)
